On May 22, 2025, Addmath proudly celebrated a remarkable milestone, one of our Directors, Iponeng Solomon officially graduated with a master’s degree in Trauma-Informed Practice (Social Work and Care) from Teesside university. While this may seem an unusual pursuit for an accountant, the decision was deeply intentional and directly aligned with the work we do daily.
Understanding Trauma Beyond Traditional Fields
Trauma-informed education is commonly associated with healthcare and social work, but its relevance extends far beyond these industries. Every sector, including finance, benefits from a trauma-informed approach. But what is trauma, exactly? It refers to the emotional and mental responses people experience due to extremely difficult or stressful situations, such as accidents, loss, bullying, discrimination, abuse, and financial hardship.
These challenges shape how people think, feel, and interact, affecting relationships, decision-making, and even workplace dynamics. Many of the individuals we encounter: clients, colleagues, and even ourselves may be carrying invisible burdens. By recognizing this, we foster stronger connections built on understanding, empathy, and awareness.
Why a Trauma-Informed Workplace Matters
A trauma-informed workplace isn’t just about acknowledging struggles; it’s about actively creating an environment of respect, inclusion, and emotional intelligence. Businesses that integrate trauma-informed practices see tangible benefits, including:
- Stronger client relationships, as people feel heard and valued,
- A healthier work culture, where employees feel supported,
- Reduced burnout, boosting motivation and morale,
- Improved communication, fostering collaboration and trust; and
- Early recognition of issues, preventing workplace stress and bullying.
Burnout is an all-too-common challenge, particularly when workloads increase and support feels scarce. Similarly, subtle or overt workplace bullying can erode confidence, affecting employee well-being. A trauma-informed approach allows organizations to proactively identify and address these risks before they escalate.
Prioritizing Self-Care & Lifelong Learning
At Addmath, we believe learning never stops. Whether through a formal degree, a new skill, or a short course, education is one of the most powerful investments in both personal and professional growth. No one can take knowledge away, it is a lifelong asset that drives progress.
Equally important is self-care. Taking regular breaks, setting boundaries, seeking help when needed, and engaging in activities that bring peace and joy aren’t indulgences, they are necessities. Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential!
Looking Ahead: Inspiring Growth & Resilience
We share this achievement not just to celebrate a milestone but to inspire continuous growth. You are limitless. Keep striving higher, keep learning, and keep investing in yourself, because when we nurture our own well-being, we create a better, healthier world for everyone.
